Insurance for Contractors

No one likes to think of the worst or what would happen if things went wrong but sadly it is a fact of life that things do not always go as planned which is where having a suitable protection policy in place can be a real saving grace. Protection can cover many things from your home to your health and your income. As a Contractor or Freelancer, in many instances you do not receive the same employment benefit package that your permanently employed colleagues do, such as sick pay, death in service or other such benefits.

As part of the mortgage process the dedicated Contractor and Freelancer Mortgage Advisor will provide you with a Holistic Financial review ensuring that you are aware of all of the policies available to you and helping you put the policies you desire in place.

This service is not exclusive to clients wishing to discuss mortgage funding though, so should you wish to be contacted by an advisor to purely discuss protection policies, please fill in the simple call back enquiry form below.

Life Insurance for Contractors

Life Insurance policies pay out a lump sum if you were to die or if you are diagnosed with a critical illness. A further policy can be added, which will pay out a monthly benefit should you be unable to work through accident or sickness.

Many people, at all stages of life can benefit from the peace of mind a Life/Critical Illness policy can bring. Your adviser will help you work out how much cover you need with your policy. In the event of your death, it may not just be a mortgage you want to have paid, you may want to leave your loved ones enough money to cover income you would have earned or pay for Universty fees etc.

Income Protection for Contractors

An Income Protection Policy is designed to protect your income if you are unable to work as a result of disability or ill health. Unlike an ASU policy which typically has a maximum term of 1 or 2 years, an Income Protection policy can have a significantly longer term, and typically upon a successful claim would pay out a monthly tax-free income after your chosen deferred period  until you either recover or reach your selected retirement age.

The maximum cover you can have is typically between 50-60% of your gross income, however, as the benefit is paid tax free, you can replace a high percentage of your income in the event of long term incapacity.

The risk of long term incapacity is much greater that you might think. Did you know that the number of working claimants of Employment & Support Allowance and Incapacity Benefits totals over 2.6 million in November 2008” (DWP Work & Pensions Longitudinal Study 2009). Some of the most common conditions covered by income protection insurance are mental illnesses such as anxiety, stress or depression & back pain.

Private Health Insurance for Contractors

If you want Private Health Insurance then , like other insurances, you have to pay for it but for many people it is money well spent.

Let's face it, the NHS is not what it was and the thought of long waiting lists for operations, overcrowded wards and the general inconvenience is not enticing in the slightest.

With Private Health Insurance you can choose your hospital and have much faster access to Consultants and Specialists. You can have access to much needed drugs and prompt treatment for a variety of eligible conditions.

Also, you can choose from a wide range of plans from in-patient treatment only to those offering out-patient treatment, alternative therapies, dental care and even worldwide travel insurance.

Home Insurance for Contractors

Buildings Insurance is the most basic of cover and is designed to cover you against physical damage to your property. It is generally a condition  of your mortgage contract and is required by most mortgage lenders to comply with the terms and conditions of the loan, however, it is usually acceptable for you to shop around and use the Building Insurance provider of your choice.

Contents Insurance offers cover against fire, theft, acts of god and accidental damage to your personal belongings, as different companies offer different inclusions and exclusions you should always check your policy.
